      Description

Each Intent resource (e.g. BindingIntent) in both the 1.7 and 2.1 specs has a "Process Resource Pairing" list.  For example, BindingIntent's list contains 21 entries.  Each resource found in this list (e.g. BlockPreparationParams) has a "mirror" list of its own, called "Intent Pairing", and each of the Intent Pairing lists in turn lists BindingIntent to confirm the two are paired.  Good stuff.

However, there are a few cases where the "resource" listed in the many "Process Resource Pairing" lists is not actually a resource, but is instead a subelement.  This is probably not ideal, as the list's title says it lists resources, but in addition, since subelements do not have an "Intent Pairing" list for them, the "back-link" back to the Intent does not exist.

      The cases:

      • BindingIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the subelement GlueLine (problem in JDF 1.7 only)
      • DeliveryIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the subelement Address (problem in JDF 1.7 only)
      • FoldingIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the subelement Fold
      • HoleMakingIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the Hole subelement (problem in JDF 1.7 only)
      • HoleMakingIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the HoleLine subelement (problem in JDF 1.7 only)
      • HoleMakingIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the HolePattern subelement (problem in XJDF 2.1 only)
      • InsertingIntent's "Process Resource Pairing" lists the subelement InsertSheet (problem in JDF 1.7 only)

Note that in JDF 1.7, each of the subelements mentioned above are marked as "Resource candidate: true", so I guess they were resources at some time in the past.

It is not clear that this needs to be fixed–maybe we're ok with the way it is?  Nor when any fix would be made (1.7/2.1 or wait for 1.8/2.2?), or what the fix would be.

(This issue was identified in JDF-817, and Graham Mann was unsure what to do, so left it alone.)
