See Layout/@OrdsConsumed in JDF for a potential solution.

|DocPages ?||IntegerList||@DocPages SHALL specify the number of pages in each document of a multi-document set. The sum of @DocPages SHALL specify the number of pages in one set. If the RunList references a PDL that supports internal instance documents, @DocPages SHALL match the document and set structure that is defined in the PDL.
Note: @DocPages is defined to concisely specify a unique, repeating multi-document and multi-set document structure for PDLs that do not support internal instance documents. See also @EndOfDocument and @EndOfSet.
Example of a multi-set file using RunList/@DocPages
The following example describes a 480 page document with 40 sets of 12 pages each. Each set contains three logical documents that represent a 2 page front cover, an 8 page body and another 2 page back cover.
